Where does it start?

My understanding is that dry AMD starts in the centre of your eye and goes outward from there. The last test I had showed it beginning at the bottom of my eyes. I didn't get an explanation from the optometrist. Can someone explain this, please? Thanks, Janet

  1. Hi Janet! We are not medical experts, so please keep that in mind. It sounds like your doctor is talking about drusen, which are small, yellow deposits that form under the retina. Those deposits are what leads to central vision loss when they grow in size and/or in number. Here is an article that explains the stages of AMD that might help: https://maculardegeneration.net/amd-stages. Have your symptoms changed at all? Wishing you the best. - Lori (Team Member)

  2. Thank you for clarifying that. I was diagnosed about 8 years ago. Fortunately the only noticeable symptom I have so far is difficulty seeing contrast; such a dark blue or green on black and pale yellow or pink on white. I get a lot of helpful information from this site; thank you.
