I have dry macular degenerate

I just found this forum and hoping for support and information.
I have dry macular degenerate and very dry eyes and was told I had it somewhere between 15 and 20 years ago. I have been fortunate to be very stable so far. I use a combination of AREDS2 and Sight Care. I have issues using AREDS2 due to my zinc levels. So I only take it every other day but take Sight Care daily. After starting Sight Care I noticed that I no longer have floaters, no longer have issues with fuzzyness in my vision. Any for some reason I sleep so much better. I am 77, retired IT professional and I love reading and doing colored pencil art, mostly coloring books.

  1. Hi . Welcome to the community! That is great news. How long have you been using Sight Care? Thanks for sharing what helps. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Today is 40 days od using Sight Care and 34 days od using Refresh PM. I noticed within the first week a difference in my vision, mostly no floaters, and improvement in the MD chart

      1. Fantastic! I hope it keeps working for you. - Lori (Team Member)

    2. Day 43 I did a little experimenting today. I can rea my Kindle with the font size down to 2. When I started I had to have my font size at 7. I got my favorite Bible out that I haven't been able to read for a decade or more. The Bible has a very small font size, about 2.5 compared to my Kindle. This Bible was a Christmas present from my late wife. I also noticed at a distance of 3.5 feet I can see the MD chart without the need of the bifocal lense, the chart looks perfect. I can't believe this is happening to me. Praise God for answering my prayers.

      1. How awesome! Won't your doctor be surprised! That must feel great. Enjoy the weekend! - Lori (Team Member)

    3. I am going to put forth a question. My eyes are becoming tired in the afternoons, is it possible that my prescription glasses are no longer the correct prescription for my eyes? I have older pairs of glasses that maybe I should try. I do have an appointment on April 11th for getting tear duct plugs to hopefully help my eyes. I am now hoping that I can get my doctor to check my vision and scan my eyes to check my macular degeneration. Even with my dark sunglasses I could see much better details while I am out walking the forest trails that I have been walking for about 7 years. I was seeing things I haven't noticed before, it could be that I was actually looking more closely now. The MD chart still have straight lines and no curves or ghost. In general my perception is that my vision is improving, but could that be wishful thinking? I don't believe so. As I now read my Kindle using font size 4 or 5 instead of 7 or 8. 4 when my eyes are not tired 5 when my eyes are tired. As for as my dry eyes go I am still using Refresh Tears, and Refresh gel during the day and I use Refresh PM orinment when I go to bed. My eyes seem to stay less dry, and more than likely due to the high pollen my eyes water some while out walking the trail. I am actually trying to analyze my data, which is just my perception.

      1. - Hello Chuck. Just want to let you know that I suffer from dry eyes as well, especially with one eye. They tried the plug, and it was nothing but more irritation. So they cauterized the tear duct to allow the tears to stay in my eye and not drain. This was effective. Hope this information helps you. - Beaglmum

      2. my plugs seem to be really helping.
