Well its been a very busy month, since my optician referred me to the local state hospital ... They said CSCR ... come back in 6 weeks. So I have taken things into my own hands .. and paid out $1500 for the opinion of a private Ophthalmic Surgeon .. the upshot being that I have an "occult" which is short hand for saying they have no idea what is causing "Fluid on my Macular" I am too old for CSCR .. (65) and a tadge young for wet AMD... But the upshot is I am likely to require a trial of injections ... all 8 of them. Not a problem for people with two functional eyes, but I only have the one .. and thats the one they want to inject... Now for some maths .. The state clinic say that there is a one in 5000 chance of the injection causing my good to go blind ... but the Surgeon at the private clinic says its more like one in two thousand... Thats a big difference... and it transpires that the probabilities are per injection ... so if the private clinic are right .. its one in two thousand chance of being blinded (in my case it would be totally blind on account of only having one eye at the outset) ... so thats one in two thousand ... eight times = a one in 250 chance of being totally blinded at some point during the course of treatment. Thats a massive risk .. as total blindness would wreck my 65 year old life as I know it.. Now to the treatment itself .. because I have a phobia of needles, I thought about hypnotherapy.. but I got a shock when the Hypnotherapist said I needed "tapping" which means they want to put their fingers all over my body for half an hour, before putting me under hypnosis for half an hour (when basically anything could be done to me). The 4th June is looming, and I feel I have little option other than to refuse treatment.. because going totally blind at the age of 65 .. (and still having 20/20 vision in my good eye) ... is one risk that is simply too big.. Its really scary.... really scary indeed. So now I am totally depressed, as I feel that there is no safe way out, and I cant trust the guys who told me the risk is one in 5,000 when the real risk is actually one in 250,,,,, Not good.
