Symptoms

For a few years now I've been diagnosed with AMD, but also with Glaucoma. The symptoms seem to overlap themselves...or not. I don't see the wavy lines I read from AMD sufferers, but I see black clouds of various sizes wherever I look, at least definitely in the left eye (can’t tell whether on both). Plus both eyes burn and it's hard to see in a dark or dimly lighted room when coming from a sunny street, or can't find the numbers in an elevator.

In general my vision is being drastically reduced without knowing which of the two is the culprit.
Are any AMD members here also seeing these black clouds? When I report it to either specialist they don't answer. I need to find a more competent specialist? If someone here knows of a good AMD Retina Specialist in Manhattan, NYC, may I have her/his contact? Thank you most kindly!

  1. I have dry amd but not glaucoma. I didn't see wavy lines until aout 7 years after my diagnosis. I also have trouble going from light to dark environments. I do see dark splotches in my line of sight, but not right in the middle. I also see them on my Amsler Grid. Are you using one of those grids to check your vision in between doctor's appointments? If you check one eye at a time by completely covering the other eye, you should be able to see the blotches on the grid, and also determine if they are occurring in both eyes. Regarding your burning eyes, this happens to me, and in my case it's because I have dry eyes. I use over-the-counter eye drops to help with that. Best wishes to you - I hope you can find a doctor or doctors in whom you have confidence. Wendy, Patient Leader.
