* Is Valeda Light Therapy Helpful and Safe for Geographic Atrophy?

I have Geographic Atrophy in one eye, and fortunately it has not yet reached the fovea (the center of vision). My retina specialist and I are discussing possible treatment options, including Valeda photobiomodulation therapy.

One of my concerns is the expense of treatment and whether the benefits justify the cost. I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who has personally undergone Valeda treatment.

If you have received Valeda, could you share:

• What stage of Geographic Atrophy you were in when you started treatment
• Whether your vision or daily functioning changed afterward
• How long you have been receiving treatment
• Whether your doctor believes it slowed progression of the disease
• Any side effects or drawbacks you experienced
• Whether Medicare or supplemental insurance covered any of the cost, and what your out-of-pocket expenses were

  1. Hi . This is becoming a bigger topic of conversation in this community now that the FDA has approved photobiomodulation therapy and insurance has begun covering it. I hope you get lots of feedback. In the meantime, here are a few other forums you might find helpful: https://maculardegeneration.net/forums/questions-on-valeda-for-amd-treatment-regimen and https://maculardegeneration.net/forums/valeda-ligh-system-for-dry-amd. I hope these help. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)
