Valeda light therapy

Was just wondering if anyone has ever heard of valeda light therapy? I live in illinois and my brother and I both have dry macular degeneration. It is FDA approved. It doesn’t cure it, but it’s supposed to slow down the progression. I will have my 5th treatment on Friday, and my brother will have his 3rd. There is a total of 9 treatments, and then maintenance every 6 months. I do see that when I look at the computer now for extended periods of time, my eyes do not get all fuzzy and seem to go back to normal in a very short time instead of them being fuzzy for hours. It costs a lot, but the doctor says that maybe my Medicare will pick up the cost. I’m hoping that it does, but all the money I’ve spent going to the eye doctor doesn’t compare with the fact that it slows down the progression without the side effects like the injections for dry. I’m so hopeful that maybe they might have a cure before long.

  1. Hi . How wonderful that your vision is improving with the Valeda treatment! Since photobiomodulation is so newly approved by the FDA, we have only recently started to get feedback in this community. Here is a forum post about Valeda that includes a Medicare code in the comments: https://maculardegeneration.net/forums/lumi-thera-treatments-using-the-valeda-machine. Maybe you can share that with your doctor's office. Some of the comments have been collapsed in longer threads, so you might have to click on them to see al of them.
Here is another fantastic forum created by a doctor who performs the therapy: https://maculardegeneration.net/forums/questions-on-valeda-for-amd-treatment-regimen. From what I understand, Valeda is as effective as the injections. I hope it becomes more readily available soon and that insurance coverage improves.
Keep us posted if you don't mind. I'd love to hear how you and your brother are doing. I'm sure many others in this community are interested as well.
Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)
