Lumi Thera treatments, using the valeda machine

The clinics are all over Europe. I spent four weeks in Switzerland to receive the treatments; 3 each week for 3 weeks. and a fourth week so the doctor can measure your response at week's end. I was able to read three more lines on the eye chart, but the doctor stated that would go down, since AMD degenerates. The good news is it slowed AMD's progress for three months. The doctor stated I should get another series of treatments in three months and then six months later another series. When I left for Switzerland, it was thought the FDA would have it approved by the end of spring. That has not happened. But they are still working on it; hopefully it will be FDA approved by end of summer. I'm concerned for all the millions of people who are prevented from getting this important treatment. I wrote to the Lumi Thera Company, and they are waiting for FDA approval, but are currently researching potential locations, but no final decisions have been made. 1. Hopeful news😊

    1. I am scheduled for the treatments next week. I hope they last longer than 3 mos. Insurance does not cover it yet

      1. are you sure that Medicare covers?

      2. My medicare covers, but I think Medicare Advantage doesn't.

    2. This treatment Not covered yet

      1. Straight medicare is currently covering treatments. At this time most medicare advantage plans are not covering treatment.

        1. Hi . Did your doctor's office tell you that or someone from Medicare? I went through something like this recently for an oral appliance I needed. The dentist's office told me it wasn't covered, but, as it turned out, they never ran it through insurance because so few companies covered it. They simply assumed it wasn't covered and billed me. I only found this out after contacting my insurance company to determine why it was rejected. If your doctor's is not aware that the treatment is covered, is it possible they never submitted it or used the wrong code? It might be worth checking on. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

        2. Please look at my prior responses. The answer is complex and can be quite nuanced depends on a number of factors, including your exact diagnosis, where you live in the country and if the eye in question has ever been treated for wet macular degeneration as well as your visual acuity. If you provide more details, I can provide a more relevant answer.
