Anyone using a white cane?

Hello - thanks for having this kind of open forum. The articles have been very helpful. I am especially interested in learning about getting and using a white cane.
I have GA in both eyes, Charles Bonnet disease, ocular migraines and bilateral labyrinthine dysfunction. I am 75 and live with my husband in an apartment. Everything is getting more difficult - cooking, cleaning, shopping for groceries, etc. Driving is getting to be iffy. In any case, with severe osteoporosis (have had 2 compression fractures already) and fell in the shopping center last Friday, primarily on my elbow with nothing broken but kind of concerned about falling again.
Any information anyone can provide will be very helpful. Thanks very much. — Mary AliceOne of my Religious Ed students gave me this hat.

  1. Hi . I hope you get some input from others. Here is a forum post from someone who asked about using white canes: https://maculardegeneration.net/stories/white-cane. I was surprised to learn when I read it that some states require you be diagnosed legally blind in order to use one. I'm glad to hear nothing was broken in your fall, but how scary! I can see why you might want a white cane. Have you considered using a rollator/walker? I know you don't need help with the act of walking, but using one would give you support if you started to fall. Thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)
