   <p>Good question, Richard. <inline-mention user-id="3141060" username="ladybird111"/> . I was surprised to find a white cane is only to be used by someone who is legally blind - in most places. I think it could be because the motor vehicle act requires drivers to give right of way (again in most places) to anyone with a white cane.    <p>Interesting - My Mother was “legally blind” with macular degeneration but she never knew of the white cane rule and wonder how many others are unaware. Thanks for bringing it up! This inspires me to google my state’s position AND ask my retina specialist on my next visit. Linda, Advocate &amp; Team Member</p>

   <p>I&#39;ve wondered the same thing but I use it when I go to the retina specialist when I get a injection in the eye or dilute just to get home</p>
