Genetic Macular Degeneration

I am 21 year old Male , and having Macular degeneration , doctors say that it is genetic . is it possible in next few years this macular degeneration get reversed genetically ? do such cases exists . or are there any treatment for this .

  1. did your doctor tell you which type macular degeneration you have? At younger ages people often have Stargardt or myopic MacularDegeneration. We have people in the community with all types macular degeneration. There are treatments to slow the progression for both wet and dry macular degeneration. Stem cell or gene therapy are in clinical trials that we hope one day results in better treatment options. Warm wishes, Sharon Moore patient leader.

    1. Sir , doctor didn't mentioned the type but said that it's genetic.a year ago it was limited to my left eye only but now my right eye is also having macular degeneration.

      1. I am sorry to hear both eyes now have macular degeneration. Did your doctor recommend any supplements? There are some lifestyle changes that may slow the progression. https://maculardegeneration.net/lifestyle-changes/. Warm wishes, Sharon Moore patient leader

    2. Doctor hve given Max Vision tablet as suppliment. have one doubt , as it is genetic disorder in my case is there any chance such that it can reduce genetically in future?

      1. unfortunately I don’t have the knowledge to answer your question. Your retinal specialist should be able to answer this and any other questions you may have. I find it helpful to write my questions down so that I don’t forget. Warmly, Sharon Moore patient leader

    3. Vishal, I was diagnosed with mCNV (myopic Choroidalneovascularization) I was told it is genetic. I usually happens to people in their 40s - 50s. It happened to me suddenly at 73yrs old, prognosis is poor in people who are diagnosed in later years. You may be helped in the future, go to Genentech website, they are doing stem cell and genetic research. They also have a phone number you can call to see about research studies and help with treatments. The mCNV is rather rare but stem cell treatment shows promise for the genetic conditions. You must go to a Retinal Specialist for treatment if you haven't already. I hope you find answers and that your eyes will improve with treatments.
