Cost of Izervay or Syfovre

Have just been diagnosed with Dry AMD. My retinal specialist has suggested either Izervay or Syfovre shots. Have read some about both. Any idea what the cost will be if my insurance company won't cover them?

  1. Physicians' cost for the two drugs vary based on which supply company they use, use volume and whether they qualify for something called GPO discounts. Each cost just over $2000 per dose barring discounts. Offices have considerable discretion on what they charge the cash patient however. Medicare pays a 4 to 6 percent premium on medications and offices generally are not allowed to charge cash patients less (some exceptions are allowed), so I would expect to pay between 2080 and 2120 or higher. If the treatment is not covered, the office will add in a procedure cost for the injection as well.

    1. Thanks for that information. I'm sure will find it very helpful. We've had a few members who lost coverage for a while and their doctors provided samples, but that's not a permanent solution. Here is an article about managing healthcare expenses that includes some tips for those who have no coverage: https://maculardegeneration.net/resources-cost. I hope this helps. Wishing you the best. - Lori (Team Member)

    2. That’s a good point, offices that accept samples (not all do) have that option. I didn’t think to mention that.
