My Journey With Wet AMD

I was diagnosed 5 years ago. I was injected with Avastin for a year in both eyes. For 2 years, I was stable, no fluid, no blood leaks. This ended last week at my latest appointment.

Post-injection pain and Betadine reactions

My left eye has deteriorated drastically, so much so that I cannot even read the FIRST letter on the chart. The doctor wanted to restart injections immediately.

I refused, as I have a severe reaction to Betadine. They do not use chlorhexidine, nor do they prescribe pain meds for the extreme pain.

Considering laser surgery

The nearest retina specialist is over 200 miles away. That is not viable for me. The last alternative is laser surgery, and it is 50/50 that it will work.

If it does not work, I will be blind in my left eye. My right eye is OK for now, but the doctor is convinced that if worse comes to worst, it will follow shortly.

I am 78 and appreciate being able to see for now and will adapt.
