I was diagnosed 5 months ago despite taking lutein for at least 10 years. I also started taking AREDS2 about a year ago. My father also had wet AMD.

Starting injection treatment

My ophthalmologist gave me an injection of Avastin monthly for 4 months and he felt I was doing well with it even though I still had vision loss. I decided to go to a retinal specialist at the beginning of my 5th month since diagnosis and he said I had a “leak” and then gave me an Avastin injection and an appointment to come next month and get Eylea.

I hope my good eye stays stable

I am very concerned that I did damage to myself by getting the Avastin injections instead of Eylea in the first place. I am just hoping and praying nothing happens to my good eye.

Thank you so much! My retina specialist is pretty noncommittal about the outlook and just says we need to treat it aggressively with monthly injections. I tried to get him to give me his opinion and all he said is that I may see a little improvement but that my vision would not return to what it was before the hemorrhage. Thankfully my right eye does not have wet amd and hopefully it won’t anytime soon! Marsha

I hope the blood from the retinal hemorrhage eventually reabsorbs and you lose that pear-shaped spot that's blocking your vision. What has your doctor said about it? Hi, Unfortunately I am not doing very well. About 6 weeks ago, I was lifting some heavy patio umbrellas and strenuously vacuuming my pool when all of a sudden I had a massive retinal hemorrhage. I had been receiving eylea every 8 weeks and doing pretty well. Now I have very decreased vision in my wet amd eye and have a black pear shaped spot blocking my central vision in that eye. I am receiving eylea every 4 weeks now but the vision does not seem to be improving. My depth perception is really off as well making it hard to do a lot of things. I am hoping and praying that it gets better. Marsha

Hi Marsha, I have had macular degeneration for almost 3 years now. My first treatments were with Avastin. My retina specialist gave me an injection every month for 3 months then changed to Eyela. I'm doing well. Sounds to me like your doing GREAT!
