Visit to my Eye Doctor

Ihave had AMD for about 7 years and visit my eye doctor every six months. The exam lasts about 40 minutes and he says the good news is that I still have dry AMD.My question is do most doctors tell you abut the progress of your dry AMD. Is it worse than it was 6 months ago or a year ago? All I get is that it is still dry.

  1. I get exams and scans every 6 months too. I was told about 18 years ago that I have dry macular degeneration and pinhead cataracts. My last exam about 3 weeks ago i still don't have any progression of my macular degeneration but my cataracts are slowly progressing and hopefully I will be getting them removed. I also have dry eyes that seem to be my worse problem. For me my present eye doctor and I believe that my diet and the supplements I take are what is keeping my macular degeneration from getting worse.

    1. Hi . I think most doctors would tell you if you had significant progression, but I would come right out and ask, if you haven't already. Have you noticed any symptoms of progression? - Lori (Team Member)

      1. I asked him if it is getting worse and he toldme they only monitor to tell you if you have advanced to wet eye AMD. What I wnt to know is there a measurement scale to tell you how advanced is your dry AMD is?

        1. Some people use an Amsler grid to measure progression. Here is an article that explains it bette than I can: https://maculardegeneration.net/living/fear-amsler-grid-changes. Here is another article about one person's journey and observations of progression: https://maculardegeneration.net/living/is-this-progression. I hope these articles help. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)
