seeing patterns with dry AMD

78 years old with dry AMD for 5 years. Sometimes a see rgular hexagonal pattern . The pattern is faint and violet in color. It appears to be about 20 heagons faint and transparent almost like a wallpaper in the center of my vision.Anybody else have this symptom?

  1. Hi . Does the pattern last for long? We are not medical experts, of course, but your symptoms do sound similar to a condition called migraine with aura. It's usually not a sign of any serious health issues, but I would talk to your doctor about them visual disturbances anyway, if you haven't already. I have experienced them twice. Once, I was treated to a pattern of vibrate colors to the left of my field of vision. The next time wasn't as pleasant. It was a zig zag pattern of lines across my entire field of vision. Here is an article about visual auras from our sister community, Migraine, com: https://migraine.com/migraine-types/migraine-with-aura. They usually last 20 minute to one hour. Mine lasted about 30 minutes. I hope this helps. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. I am 82 and have what my doctor calls ocular migraines. They present as multiple rows of zig-zaggy liines flashing in an arc along the top, side, and bottom of my vision. There is no pain (so far!). They started a couple of years ago, mostly just occasionally when I was reading, but now they can occur at any time, and and have been growing in frequency, to maybe once a week or so.

      1. Hi . Though ocular migraine (also called migraine with aura) can be unsettling, it's actually normal to have them sometimes. Here is an article that explains them and discusses when you should seek treatment: https://migraine.com/migraine-types/migraine-with-aura. Did your doctor suggest any treatment or was your doctor not terribly concerned about them? Wishing you the best. - Lori (Team Member)
