I have myopic macular degeneration. My ophthalmologist wants to do cataract surgery on the eye with MMD. If she does cataract surgery on this eye will my MMD get worse? She said the surgery will improve my vision.
Hi . You are not alone in your concern. This is a common topic in the community. Hopefully, you will get input from others. While you wait, I thought I would share this article with you: https://maculardegeneration.net/clinical/cataract-surgery. I hope this helps. Warm wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

One year ago I went for new glasses. Was diagnosed with cataracts and spots on my macula. Had cataract surgery one right eye. Was a botched surgery. Had hav second surgery by retina specialist. Now hav AMD with not much hope of getting better. Am under monitoring care now.

I am so sorry. That must have been scary. I'm glad you found a more competent doctor and I hope your AMD progression is slow. Does it affect just the one eye or both? - Lori (Team Member)

I think it is both eyes. I have been to 5 eye doctors, not much of straight answer from any. I am 81 and just waiting see if I die or go blind first. Other than that, I am fine.

Hi . Let's hope neither happens any time soon. I can change "fat" to "that" for you if you like so no one else gets confused. I wish you didn't have to contend with macular degeneration, but how awesome that you have no other health issues. - Lori (Team Member)
