Meso-zeaxanthin -- eye dots

I'm three years into Wet on the left and Dry on the right. I get one shot of Eylea Regular in the wet eye every 12 weeks. About three months ago, I started hearing about meso-zeaxanthin. AREDS2 that I see doesn't have it. My opthamologist was very "enh" about it. I found an AREDS2 supplement that has the meso. I take one old style and one meso per day. I just started taking the meso, so I don't have any report on it. Does anyone have more experience?

Vision-wise, my wet eye normally looks like I'm looking through an irregular layer of mucous. The right eye gives me better vision, but it's still not right. The vision in the right eye is slightly more yellow than the wet left eye. My balance is slightly off, I think because each eye is seeing slightly differently.

When I started getting shots, I could blink in a dark room and see a shape like a vertical, narrow oval with parallel sides and rounded top and bottom, like a Good & Plenty candy. As I got more shots, the shape began to fall apart and get smaller. It began to look like the islands of the UK. Now it's small, about 1/4 of the original size, and rough around the edges. There is also now a shape in the right eye, but the two are different. The left eye has dark parts with some bright edges. The right eye sees a white spot with some black dots in it.

  1. Hi . Welcome to the community! I think you'll find a few people here who take meso-zeaxanthin or zeaxanthin for their eye health. Here is an article that includes a discussion of foods that contain zeaxanthin: https://maculardegeneration.net/living/protect-remaining-vision. I wish your doctor was more communicative and supportive when it comes to providing information about it. Hopefully, others will chime in here with their experiences.
Are you seeing any improvement in your wet eye since you started injections? Thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Hi, I have been getting Eylea (regular) for about three years, in my left eye. I began at 1 shot every 4 weeks. I'm now out to 12 weeks between shots. Before my first shot, I rode up the interstate in the right lane. As I glanced across to the left edge of the left lane, I noticed that the line looked like a camel with two noticeable humps. Although I still see some distortions, the camel humps are gone.
While some people talk about loss of central vision, my entire vision in the left eye is reduced. It's like my eye has a mucous layer I have to see through. The vision in that left eye is is a little whiter. The right eye (dry Macular D) looks more yellow. Yes I have some cataract issues, but my doctor says it's not bad enough to replace the lenses.
