Just diagnosed in November

Hello all, I'd like to know if there are people who have wet MD and have never gotten an injection. My question is if they have had wet MD for years with no injections, do they still have peripheral vision. I lost central vision in my left eye due to wet MD this year and I do not see a reason to get injections if peripheral vision is not affected. I don't want to experience any of the side effects. I have to see the RS again next month. So far, he has let me make the decision as to whether to get the shots or not. He wants to check next month at my appt to see if the fluid is stable. If there is more fluid under the retina than what he saw this month, he said that he may want to do a series of 3 injections once a month with Avastin. So, I am hoping that the fluid is stable so I can feel okay with declining the shots. God bless everyone in this group. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

  1. Hi . Welcome to the community! I hope you get some feedback from others about this question. There are so many unknowns in macular degeneration treatment. It's good that you are doing your research and looking for input. Keep us posted, regardless, if you don't mind. I'll be thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)

  2. I was diagnosed with Wet AMD in my right eye and dry AMD in my left. I have peripheral vision in the right eye and normal in left. I've had 3 injections in the right eye for 3 months. My last appointment I was told to schedule an appointment with a RETINA ophthalmologist in 6-12 months for dilated fundus exam and OCT RNFL/macula and technician for eye pressure check. I also am taking Areds 2, twice a day.
So far, I have no problem being able to function normally in everything I do. Reading small print is hard but other than that, no problems. Consider myself fortunate to be able to do what I do, for an 85-year old.

    1. yes, you are fortunate. Your positive attitude helps.

    2. I have wet mac gen in both eyes and get injections every 8 weeks. I always make sure to relax my eye muscles right before the shot. My Doctor tells me if he feels resistance so I immediately relax my eye muscles and then he proceeds with the shot and it doesn't hurt at all. I hope this information helps someone else to try it.

  3. I was diagnosed in April 2025 and had one injection. I found it to be so unpleasant and, of course, it was not guaranteed to halt or improve my MD. So, I have not had another. My peripheral vision is fine. I can still read, drive, and do most of the things I've always done. Your body belongs to you. You should decide for yourself whether to seek treatment or not.

  4. I could not see the eye chart due to fluid in my left eye. I had an injection 3โ€“4 days after it occurred, and my eyesight returned to 6/6. If you leave the fluid and a fibrosis happens, there is no going back. It is up to you, of course. There are risks, as with any medicine.
