I am really nervous

I am really nervous ... I have two eyes ... one with excellent VA, and the other partially sighted since a childhood injury. I am reckoning on a Dry AMD diagnosis in the next couple of weeks. I have been on my reserve chute since I was seven, and now I think they are about to tell me the reserve is collapsing , and I'm only 65. Not only that its very probably inherited, so am now very nervous for my kids and their kids. I know this sounds incredibly selfish, but how will I cope mentally, and how will I constructively occupy my time, if the reserve completely collapses.?

  1. Hi . Not knowing is the worst. Maybe you do have dry AMD or maybe your eye doctor is simply being extra cautious because of your past issues. Either is equally possible. Opticians do not have the same level of expertise as opthalmologists, so let's hope the optician is simply more comfortable passing you along to a specialist. However, if it is dry AMD and you get treatment, you probably have quite a long time before you have to worry about possibly losing your vision for good. There are some excellent treatments for dry AMD these days that can significantly slow progression. They best thing you can do right now is to keep super busy so you can keep your mind off the possibilities and help make the time until your appointment go by faster. 1. Thank-you again Lori, Yes trying to keep extra busy, as sitting watching TV simply gives my Brain permission to go into over drive. I find that going to bed early also helps... the down side being the restless waking in the middle of the night.. and said Brain going into Warp Drive!! I have searched for the possible treatments and all I get is Kale Red peppers and ARMEDS ... and none clinically proven, a bitter pill to swallow for a ex-Research Scientist/ Statistician in the Pharmaceutical Industry. I genuinely hope that there is some effective proven treatment out there that I have not heard of. But what ever the outcome from my local Hospital I will engage the best Professor of Ophthalmology I can find .. to get an unabridged and frank outlook for my next 15-20 years ,,, I am 65 right now. My other worry is the potential for a "Early" Diagnosis (I take annual eye tests my optician never suggesting 6mth appointments) to progress to RA or the wet stage quickly, suddenly and with no warning. I have ordered an Amsler Grid for the cupboard door... the online version of which comes back 99% perfect, apart from a very minor glitch in the matrix 😀 😀
