AREDS2 fir Macular Degeneration

My optometrist found drusen during my eye exam & recommended AREDS2. I have been taking one of the more popular brands for quite a while. I recently researched various brands and found many brands "other ingredients" contain soy, seed oils, carmine, artificial colors, etc. Should there be another review of AREDS2? These oils are often used in AREDS2.

  1. Hi . Welcome to the community!
Unfortunately, AREDS supplements contain no medication, so they are not regulated by the FDA. For that reason, it's really important to do some research, not only on whether the ingredients are effective, but on the manufacturer as well. Though no website or organization is 100 percent reliable when it comes to reviews of supplements, I have had good luck with consumerlab.com. I often search a couple of different sources before I buy supplements to look for agreement on the ratings.
I hope this helps and that you get input from others in the community. Maybe someone out there has already done the research. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Thank you for recommending consumerlab.com. I have tried some sites without much luck. Hopefully, as more consumers become aware of the unhealthy other ingredients, better options will become available. I did find a non-GMO supplement with Lutein& Zeaxanthin. I am adding a multivitamin & additional Vit E to it. I would like to hear about any other suggestion. Thank you.
