MD Runs in the Male Side of My Family

During my late 30s and early 40s, I took care of my father who suffered from MD for 8 years. When he was 77, he lost his eyesight completely. He said to me that he didn't want to live and I argued that there were ways for him to enjoy life. But he would not listen, and 12 days later, he passed away. I tell this because I, too, suffer from MD and my brother does, too. It is genetic.

My brother and I both have MD

We were both diagnosed at age 70. My brother will turn 80 this year, and I am soon to be 76. We are tested each year and both of us have not advanced.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle

We believe that our situation is based on our lifestyle. We do not smoke or drink alcohol. We eat a diet of multicolored vegetables and generally stay away from meat, and if we do have it, it is organic. We consume fish, beans and rice, nuts, and salads. We also take AREDS2, an eye vitamin.

The importance of healthy choices

In regards to our father, he drank alcohol and smoked a pack of Camels every day. We believe if you do these things, you could do yourself a huge favor and stop immediately... your eyes are more important.
