Apprehensive After First Injection With Izervay for GA in Right Eye

For over a decade I have been treated for AMD in both eyes by taking AREDS and 6-month checkups with retinal specialist. I'm 85 and at my last check up I was told my condition in both eyes is still dry but in right eye I now have developing geographic atrophy (GA).

Eye injections for geographic atrophy

It was recommended I take one of two injection options and it was recommended I take Izervay injections periodically. I had the first injection three days ago and it didn't go smoothly.

The RS told me that my sclera was very difficult to penetrate and it made for a very unpleasant experience to eventually complete the injection.

After my first injection

I had to keep a patch on the eye for 24 hours, hourly treatment with Thera-Tears, and OTC pain pills every 6 hours for two days. I am now feeling better with OK vision and no apparent damage. But I am scheduled to get the next shot in 6 weeks and am very troubled that having the shot will be as difficult as the first first one.

Does anyone have suggestions?

Should I discuss with the RS the possibility of some type of anesthesia like that used for cataract surgery or other help in getting these shots? Other suggestions?
