What happens if I stop the injections?

I don't think the injections are helping me.

  1. this is a very good question and we can give you some things to consider, but it is a medical question for your doctor to answer. Everyone is different and only a doctor really knows your situation. I would worry that I would lose my vision if I stopped my shots. Have you asked your specialist what they think? Does the specialist say your shots aren't working? I'm wondering if you have considered changing the medication in the shots. Some people in our community say they have tried quite a few before they find one that works well for them. Other people have said that it took quite a while for their shots to make a difference. Have you been having the shots for very long? Wendy, Patient Leader.

    1. I am interested in others experience too. My Mom stopped her injections, but I didn’t know why. Not sure if they stopped working.

      1. my father's RS stopped his, too, although he still went for check ups. I didn't know whether they were working or not, or whether the doctor decided it was all too much for my father at 97. I didn't know enough to ask the right questions then. Best wishes, Wendy, Patient Leader.

    2. I am currently taking the shots for my DMG. It IS scarey. My doctor is respected and he and his fellow doctors waited a few months after the 2 medicines were approved for the Dry Macular Degeneration. They chose this one. I am 82 and hope to keep some vision. My left eye is the worst and I have "reasonable" vision in the right eye. I've been taking since August 2024. The shot itself is not too bad, but my eyesight is blurry most of the day and sometimes more. I had my regular eye doctor check my vision after the 2nd one and he saw no big difference than my April 2024 regular check up. My retine specialist at my last shot said my vision was "stable" meaning the black areas. BUT, my TV viewing is decreasing in quality, I only read headlines, and can get by with email because I purchased a large screen.
I ask everytime I go if there is more research or reporting about this medicine which seems still experiemental. There has been none. However, my doctor is expecting (or hoping) for some reporting at a spring seminar which he will view/listen to. He said to ask him the same question about April. I don't see any other option to try to slow this down, but have little certainty. I'm very sensitive to the sun now, and will only drive on roads I know and which I know to be straight. Any informataion about your symptoms and how you feel after the shots would be appreciated.

      1. thank you for sharing this with us. Other community members have mentioned that their doctors took a while to evaluate the situation before they started patients on the new shots for dry amd. I hope community members who are having these injections will comment with their personal experiences. Are you having Syfovre or Izervay? Wendy, Patient Leader.
