Wet Myopic Macular Degeneration

Does anyone else have myopic macular degeneration (not age-related)? Mine went from dry to wet three years ago. The treatment is the same, shots, but the cause is different and I seem to experience different perceptual abnormalities, such as the feeling of seasickness when walking on sidewalks. The frequency of the visits to the retinal clinic was extended to 5 months in July, but new perceptual abnormalities alarmed me. I was seen after only a month, and fortunately, no bleeding was seen, therefore, no shot. I wonder whether other members of this forum are familiar with a form of macular degeneration caused by extreme myopia.

    1. Hi there! Welcome to our community. A diagnosis like this can be shocking and overwhelming and it takes a lot of courage to come here and share your story so I really commend you for being here.

As Brown Eyed Girl mentioned, we do have some advocates here on our site who have both wet and dry myopic macular degeneration. Until they chime in here, I thought I’d provide you with some links written by our Editorial Team, as well as our advocate team on their experiences with this condition. Feel free to check these articles out when you feel that you are able to create space for them.

        1. Hi Ilsa - I have myopic macular degeneration in one eye and it has turned my life upside down and inside out. I never feel secure going places. I do. It like to travel alone. I don’t drive anymore . It has changed my life in hundreds of ways. I was diagnosed 6 years ago.

          1. thanks for sharing your experience with myopic macular degeneration. It is helpful to others to know they are not alone. Do you have a good support system since you can’t drive? Warm wishes, Sharon Moore patient leader
