Time between injections

I have been receiving injections of Eyelea now for 2 years. Recently I had to change doctors due to a dispute between my health insurer and the clinic where I was being treated. I have wet AMD in my left eye which has been stable ( no leakage) for the past year now. My previous doc had me on a 12 week schedule for injections. My new doctor confirmed that the eye is still stable and thinks we can just monitor it for now. Wants to rescan in January and go from there. That will mean 6 months between injections assuming she injects in January. I am curious to know if others have had long term stable and extended perios between injections.

  1. my sister has been treated for wet macular degeneration for over 10 years. She has gone several months between injections a few times. She is currently on Vabysmo and hadn’t needed an injection for 4 months. She will be checked again in December. Some community members have mentioned getting maintenance injections periodically when they are stable. I hope you remain stable. Regards, Sharon Moore patient leader

    2. I have a similar situation and have not had any injections in my left eye for over 9 months and my eye remains stable but the dry AMD keeps progressing. I receive shots in my right eye also that has remained stable for 16 months. It is quite challenging at times to navigate daily life and unfortunately the dry AMD at this point in time can’t be treated.

      1. it's good to hear that the injections are keeping your wet macular degeneration stable and that the time between shots is quite long. It's an unfortunate reality that the dry macular degeneration can keep progressing. Some doctors don't explain this to their patients, so they think the shots aren't working at all. Best wishes, Wendy, Patient Leader.

    3. For the last 6 plus years my injections have been every month. Insurance will not cover any closer. Left eye is still not stabilized.

      1. that's quite a commitment to have to go every month for a shot. Has your doctor ever discussed the possibility of changing the medication in the injections? Wendy, Patient Leader.
