Standard eye test MD

Hi guys last week I went in for standard eye test as I need reading glasses , first eye test I’ve had in years and years , was shocked to find out I have moderate Macular Degeneration I am 47 in March next year , I have to see specialist in one weeks time , scary thing to find out any one else been diagnosed in their 40s or younger?

  1. Thanks for the advice I will ask those questions I am non smoker and appear to be fit , active and healthy

    1. there are other people in the community diagnosed at a younger age as you were. I am glad to hear you were referred to a specialist. Good questions to ask are: what type and stage of macular degeneration do I have? What steps can I take to slow the progression? If you smoke stop. It’s important to always wear sunglasses outdoors. Eating a Mediterranean style diet is recommended. You can read more about lifestyle changes to consider here . https://maculardegeneration.net/lifestyle-changes/. Keep us posted. 1. I was in my 30’s and very myopic as well as being a smoker (at that time). Good luck to you!
