Hi, happy to have found this site. My dry macular degeneration isn't too bad right now, but I find myself struggling with daily life situations. I just had scar tissue removed from the left eye from cataract surgery a few years ago. My left eye seemed to be more blurry so I made an appointment where I found out it wasn't so much my vision, but the lens of my glasses that was losing the coating and had become cloudy! Apparently, this is common! And I'd like to use these frames again but that is not advisable unless I sign a waiver?

And why is everything we need and use black or dark-colored?

Thanks for the opportunity to vent! Lol.

  1. Hi there! Welcome to our community! We're so glad that you found us and that you are here sharing your experience. One of our advocates actually just wrote an article about this happening to her with her glasses! If you'd like to read it here's the link: https://maculardegeneration.net/living/cleaning-glasses-blurry-vision. Do you know why you need a sign a waiver in order to use the frames again? I'm not familiar with this process but perhaps one of our moderators is! I'm sure they will step in soon and share their experiences with this. We're here any time you need to vent! That's what we're here for 😀. Wishing you all the best, Abby (Team Member).

    1. Thanks for the welcoming words.

      1. welcome to the community. It is a great place to come for information are just to vent. I have reused my favorite frames 2 to 3 times over the years. The provider asked that I sign a waiver saying they are not responsible if the frame should break. I have never had a problem with breakage. I share your frustration with black and dark colors. I urge you to check out all the different categories in the main menu located on the left side of the screen. Best wishes, Sharon Moore Advocate

    2. I agree about the dark colors and small print particularly on directions for products from Meds to face creams. It’s frustrating to have to ask someone to read them to you.

      1. I think even people with perfect sight would have trouble reading some of those directions and/or ingredients on packets and tubes! I sometimes take a photo with my phone and then zoom in. Although the contrast might not be good, I can often then read the words. I've done this in shops, too, and no-one takes any notice, because people are always on their phones. Best wishes, Wendy, Advocate.

    3. Thanks for replying! I wanted to share an app with the group. It's on the play store, called Pocket Magnifier with LED. By EXA Tools. I found it after it was featured on a site I'm a member of. I downloaded it to my tablet but might put it on the cell, too. There's 1x thru 8x magnifier, a very bright light, camera and settings that can be tweaked. It is the free version and has small ads but they don't bother me.

      1. thank you so much for sharing the details of this app. It sounds as though it might be very useful to many community members. I'm off to try it now! Warm wishes. Wendy, Advocate.
