New Eye Vitamins on The Market

Since I wrote an article on eye vitamins 2 years ago - https://maculardegeneration.net/living/excess-zinc - much has changed in that short time. Many other eye vitamins are now available that use the AREDS-2 formula but with less zinc. Presser Vision is no longer the prevalent eye vitamin. What do you think? Have you changed what you’re taking or talked with your doctor? Are you leery about doctors selling their own brand when they’re making a profit? Just curious & wondering how much research anyone has done or do you just follow whatever your doctor recommends? Linda Hoopes, Team Member

  1. my doctor strongly recommends I take the areds2 formula used in the studies. The zinc has not bothered my tummy. My eyes are deteriorating at a fast pace in spite of taking every precaution I know to take to slow down the progression. My next appointment is 4 months off. I plan to ask about genetic testing for zinc sensitivity. Regards, Sharon Moore patient leader

    1. Yes, I agree it’s important to follow your doctor’s recommendations about the Areds2 formula. I believe they lowered zinc from 80 to 40mg but still high when 8mg is what’s recommended daily for women. I’m surprised how many more options there are now with that formula. I checked with both my primary doctor and my RS about being tested for Zinc sensitivity & neither one of them tested for zinc - Strange! I wonder why not? Let us know what you discover! 1. My first Retina Specialist had mentioned Preservision. Then he found a less expensive but mail order supplement called VITEYES AREDS 2 Based Formula Classic for Macular Health. I have the accompanying multivitamin called VITEYES AREDS 2 Companion Multivitamin. Reading the Supplement Facts on the back of the bottle the amount of Zinc is 25mg and 1 take 1 in the morning and 1 at night. I have taken them since 2010.

        1. Thanks for the info on VITEYES AREDS 2 - Very interesting! There are so many more options now & I’m glad to see what you’re taking (& recommended by your RS) has much lower zinc. I love the way we are able to share important information in this community & appreciate your feedback! Linda Hoopes, Team Member
