I've been diagnosed for 8 years I've been reading that 10 years is when people start to notice change is that true

I've been diagnosed with AMD for 8 years now so far I just wear readers the lowest magnification 1.25 sometimes one point five zero I got a job at Walgreens and the long strip coupons I cannot read those even with readers even with strong readers and we have when I work there for a few days I went ahead and quit that's part of the reason is I couldn't read it or the expiration date and if we accepted one that it was expired we would get written up I'm still working and my last exam which was like three months ago nothing has changed nothing's really changed too much with the picture of the retinas they do I just take my eye vitamins try to take care of myself to some people notice a change in advance too wet AMD after 10 years I've been reading that I do the answer grid not on a regular basis but like maybe twice three times a week. It scares me to go blind because we realize so much in our vision for work and I'm a delivery driver and I rely on my vision so much. Thank you Roger

  1. it's a shame you had to quite your job because of not being to read the strip coupons. It sounds as though they're really small. I bet you're not the only one who has problems with them. I have read that ten years can be a time when vision starts to deteriorate, but not necessarily. Everyone is different. I've had the dry form for about ten years now, and don't have too much trouble. I see a couple of wiggly lines out of one eye, but the other eye compensates. I have chosen not to drive in the dark unless I am in very familiar territory close to home. Also, not all dry amd turns to wet. This link advises that the figure is 10-15%. https://www.macular.org/about-macular-degeneration/wet-macular-degeneration. You seem to be doing what you can to slow the progress by taking the eye supplements and checking the Amsler Grid. Do you know what your visual accuity is and what the standard is for driving in your State. It sounds as though you are still fine, but it might help you to know. Wendy, Patient Leader.
