Is there anyone who was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration young in life?

I was diagnosed at age 43 with no family history and no vision problems whatsoever previously. It was found during a yearly eye exam. I am just at a loss for words and somewhat scared for my future. I am just reaching out to see if anyone has a similar story as me. Thanks!

  1. I know there are some community members here who were diagnosed at an early age. I hope they will reply to you. How long ago was your diagnosis? Have you been given information about diet and lifestyle changes which may help to slow the progression? Wendy, Patient Leader.

    1. I was diagnosed 2 years ago. I have been given the nutritional information and have started the Areds as well. Thank you for the reply.

      1. that's good. I hope things go well for you. Best wishes, Wendy, Patient Leader.

    3. Hello, I was diagnosed at 47, with intermediate stage dry macular degeneration. Now at 50, I have geographic atrophy in the left eye, and still intermediate dry in the right, although I think my next appt may reveal GA. I have a significant change in visual acuity 2-3 times per year so far.

      1. yes. We decided together to not proceed with the injections. How are you fairing with them?

      2. I began last December and have had 4 injections so far. My doctor is very pleased with how well I am doing. Some of his patients have had to switch to monthly injections. I am doing well with bi-monthly injections. Thank you for asking, Sharon Moore patient leader
