Injections

I get a bloody eye almost every time I get an injection. I changed doctors hoping the new one would be better but here I am with another very bloody eye. This time he said he got a vessel with the numbing needle. Does anyone get the injections without the numbing injection? I know they use numbing drops but is that enough. Also, My eye still feels sore on the third day. Is that unusual. It’s never been sore like that before. Usually feels fine the day after even when it’s bloody.

  1. you ask some good questions! There are many reports of people in this community getting the occasional red eye from the shots, but I don't recall anyone having this happen nearly every time. You must have been disappointed when you changed doctors and it happened again. There are also community members who don't have a numbing injection as well as numbing drops. I hope some of them will see this and chime in with their experience. Some people put their sore eye down to the Betadine, and not having it rinsed out sufficiently. Could that be the case with you? Best wishes, Wendy, Patient Leader.

    1. Thank you. I don’t take blood thinners or any supplements other than the Adreds vitamins. I am very disappointed that this is still happening with the new doctor. The Betadine sets me on fire and I’m in a great deal of pain for about two hours after the injection. He does rinse my eye afterwards and started putting an antibiotic gel in my eye. I don’t know what else to do except tough it out and be thankful there’s something they can do to save my vision. I’m amazed that there’s nothing they can use in place of the Betadine. I’m not sure if the severe pain after the injection is the Betadine or from the Lucentis.

    2. some doctors seem to use just a little dab of Betadine, according to community members. Others give more than one rinse, sometimes several rinses. Some people get instructions about using drops at home afterwards, but this has to be at the doctor's discretion because of the possibility of infection. I agree that saving your vision is obviously the main objective, but I hope your doctor can find a way that doesn't cause you so much pain. Warm wishes, Wendy, Advocate.

  2. I know that taking blood thinners can cause bleeding with any type injection. Fish oil, vitamin E, and other supplements can also thin the blood and cause bleeding. Then there are people like me not on anything to thin the blood but I bleed easily and for longer times than others do. I hope you and your doctor can sort out the cause for the bleeding and prevent it in the future. Sharon, Patient leader
