How many injections?

Hi everyone, I am so glad I found this site. I am 68, and about a year ago I was diagnosed with macular degeneration in both my eyes. The left one is wet and the right eye is dry. I've had 7 shots to help the wet one and I can say I see a lot better. Does anyone have an idea how many shots a person has to have for this macular degeneration? Sorry, I have so much to ask but I thought I would just introduce myself first.

  1. welcome to our Community and we are very glad you found us too! I can only answer from my family experience with the shots and what people have said here on our site.

Everyone responds differently to the injections. It seems the aim is to improve the sight, or at least keep it stable. As well as this, doctors try to extend the time between shots as long as the patient is stable. This is called the "Treat and Extend" method. They may extend the break, and make it bigger and bigger, or they may have to go back to a smaller break. Sometimes they decide to stop the shots completely for a while or to change the medication. It all depends on how the person progresses. I hope this gives you some idea of what to expect. Best wishes, Wendy, Patient Leader.
