Dry and wet macular degeneration at the same time

My eye which has had dry macular degeneration for a decade recently developed the wet form as well. Now that I receive injections for the wet form, my specialist never mentions the dry form (which I know is still there.) If my vision seems to deteriorate, I don't know if it's from the dry or the wet macular degeneration. Is anyone in the same boat? Does your specialist talk about both issues to you at your appointment? Wendy, Patient Leader.

  1. I hope you get answers. Is it common to have both in the same eye? Thinking about you and hope your eye gets better ❤️

    1. thank you for your good wishes. My previous specialist told me that all wet macular degeneration begins as the dry form. Some people don't notice they have the dry form first, and aren't diagnosed with it. The first thing they might notice is when it develops into the wet form, and they get diagnosed with that. The dry form doesn't "go away" when wet develops. It is still there. I think that is one of the reasons that sometimes sight still deteriorates while people are having injections for the wet form. The dry form is still there. I just wonder why my doctor never mentions how the dry is progressing. Perhaps it's because we don't have the injections for the advanced dry form in Australia yet, so there is no treatment for it here just now. Some people in our group in the United States are having injections for both forms in the same eye. I hope you are going well in this New Year. Warm wishes, Wendy, Patient Leader.
