Different AREDS 2 composition

Hello folks,
I am in my mid 40's and for the first time 4 years ago I discovered with a fundus eye exam to have a lot of hard drusens in one eye. I don't have vision issues at the moment, but it's bad enough that the specialist wants to see me every 9 months, gave me the piece of paper with the grid to check at home the straight lines, etc...
It's a bit depressing because I don't have a single risk factor (I don't smoke, no high BP, low cholesterol, no relatives with AMD, I am Italian so Mediterranean diet...), but I don't give up and I started 3 years ago taking AREDS2.
I noticed however that there are many different compositions for the pills. Some of them have Zinc, some have not. Some have DHA, etc. Has anyone looked in to this, and decided for a specific brand?

  1. I'm attaching a link to an article written by our Editorial Team. In it you'll find the exact composition of the supplements for the AREDs2 study. I can't recommend a particular brand, but I personally selected a brand that conformed to this exact formulation. My doctor insisted that I do this. Some people worry about the high level of zinc and choose zinc-free or zinc-reduced supplements. My doctor said for me to stick to the higher level. areds2 Best wishes, Wendy, Patient Leader.

    1. Thank you, although I don't see the link.

    2. here is the link. Sorry I left it out of my previous comment. https://maculardegeneration.net/areds-vs-areds2 Wendy, Patient Leader.
