Changes in Physical Well-being

Has your fitness levels increased or decreased after being diagnosed? I have read there is a positive correlation between maintaining eye health and participating in physical activities.

If you do, what sports do you like to participate in the most? And which one did you give up due to visual challenges or balance problems?

  1. Hi while we wait on others in our community to chime in with their experiences, I shared an article we have on exercise - https://maculardegeneration.net/living/exercise-routine. I also included another article on the topic that may be of interest - https://maculardegeneration.net/living/exercise-eye-health. Do you currently do any sort of exercise or activity? Wishing you well. -Jessica, Team Member

    1. I personally do not have it, my uncle is in the beginning stages of developing it. He gets his daily walk in, but I wanted to know if there were also any other forms of simple exercises he could engage in. I appreciate you sending these articles. I will have a look at them. Thank you!

    2. I hope the information is helpful for him. If we can ever help locate any other information, please reach out anytime! Kindly, Jessica-Team Member

  2. since I was diagnosed my exercise level has decreased. Not because of macular degeneration but because i am 10 years older. I walk for exercise and use trekking poles to help with my lack of depth perception. Do you have macular degeneration? Regards, Sharon Moore patient leader

    1. That seems pretty tough. Driving in traffic is something that he has been avoiding especially since the cars are coming from everywhere! These days, it is my uncle's son who drives him around. It is difficult but he is trying to find other ways of getting about now.

    2. having family support is so important. Those without it have a much tougher time coping. Warmly, Sharon Moore patient leader
