Does anyone else see brown spots while reading on a computer?

I was diagnosed with dry macular degeneration about 4 months ago. My left eye is the worst. About one month after the diagnosis I noticed that when I read or use my computer I see brown spots under the lines I am reading and also on my keyboard. I saw my specialist again and he could not find anything wrong. Though he was concerned. Has anyone else experienced this?

Seemed to happen overnight

I do have floaters, cataracts, and glaucoma. I also have glaucoma in both eyes. I am no longer able to drive because I can no longer judge when I am making a turn or going around curves. I wear glasses for everything. When I take the off everything is somewhat blurry. The macular degeneration just seemed to happen overnight.

Right now I am taking Ocuvite. Is Perservision better?

  1. Hi , thank you so much for reaching out to the community and sharing a bit of your story with us. I know many in our community are also living with dry AMD and experiencing various visual symptoms, and I hope some others will chime in and share their experiences with you. I definitely commend you for keeping your doctor in the loop so they can closely monitor your eye health.

In regard to your question about the vitamins, it's difficult to say what's best as everyone's needs are unique. I would definitely discuss with your doctor to determine what your best options are, and here is some additional information about PreserVision's AREDS eye supplements: https://maculardegeneration.net/areds-vs-areds2/

Hope this helps, and thank you again for reaching out to the community. We're here for you!

    1. When I was first diagnosed 18 yrs ago my dr said I should take preservision daily because it was the only one that had been tested by the govt. and was the only eye support given to the veterans. I objected because it was so much more expensive than occuvite or other eye support at the time. He said I might as well take nothing than to spend money on something that doesn’t work? They now have created Preservision 2 which is easier to swallow than the orange horse pill of Preservision. I was told that the version2 was for smokers. I see now that they don’t advertise it that way. I still buy the Preservision because it is less $ than the version 2 $19 vs $25.

Btw, I also have wet AMD & Glaucoma in both eyes and had my cataracts removed just 2 weeks before the other eye diseases showed up. I think the cataracts were blocking both diseases, who knows?

I had to stop driving 3 years ago due to the same reason as you depth perception.

      1. I also have cataracts. They cannot operate yet. I am now taking Perservision with Areds 2. My left eye is getting worse. Luckily I see my specialist next week. I'm having more and more trouble reading. I read large print books. Not that often. Reading really strains my eyes. I use my computer less. I must zoom in at least at 125%.
I don't know if my left eye is now wet type. I'll know soon enough. My dry one according to the specialist is advancing faster than normal. I stopped driving about 2 years ago. I do not trust my judgement on the roads.

      2. it must have been difficult to give up driving. I trust you have a good support person that can drive you to appointments. I hope you get a good report next week. Please let us know how it goes. Best wishes, Sharon Moore Advocate
