Tips te dry macular

Had anyone been seen at Basken Palmer in Miami

  1. while waiting for anyone who has been here to comment, I looked this Centre up. Wow! It's widely considered to be the number one eye hospital in the United States. Are you going to them for treatment, or considering it? Wendy, Patient Leader.

    1. I have an app on February. My husband had been seen there and they are excellent. I do know there is no cure for dry macular but wish to get the latest research.

      1. it must be a bit of a relief to be able to go to such a wonderful place. Have you already been diagnosed with macular degeneration? May I ask what type and stage you have, and I can direct you to some articles here about the best questions to ask the doctor at your examination. Wendy, Patient Leader.

    2. I was seen last week . I knew there was “some” macular. Actually the words Macular Degeneration was not used the last 2 years but drusums ( incorrect spelling ) . I will admire I did know what the D word was!
Anyway he spoke that there was a definite change as I was 20/20, now 20/40 with left worse than right. He also spoke that eventually I won’t see my family faces…. That made me extremely sad
I was in shock for a few days but I will take a pragmatic approach . You know what made me make the appointment? I thought my glasses were responsible ( couldn’t seem to get them clean enough especially the left eye! I stay in Naples during the winter so it will be maybe a 90 minute drive to Miami. Oh BTW BP has 24hour Emergency Department exclusively for eye emergencies.
I hope my progression will be a slow one!

      1. thanks for elaborating. First off, it sounds as though, if you do have macular degeneration, you would have the dry type, as the wet type usually always requires immediate injections. I can only talk from my own experience, but I was diagnosed more than ten years ago, and I still have pretty good vision. My RS told me "you won't go blind!" There are treatments for the advanced stage of dry amd if you should ever get to that, so I think you are right to be pragmatic rather than too sad.
I am going to attach links to articles for people who are newly diagnosed, and articles about what questions to ask at your appointment. I hope they are helpful. We are here for you, so any further questions are welcome. I'll post the links in a separate reply. Has anyone mentioned AREDS2 supplements to you, or the Amsler Grid? Wendy, Patient Leader.

    3. Yes any information appreciated!
