Promising Research for Dry Macular Degeneration

While at my 6-month check-up recently, my Retina Specialist told me of promising trials that replace eye injections with an injection in the arm and also, in a pill for dry macular degeneration. This is exciting news for all those who are enduring eye injections. My R.S. has put me on a list to participate in future trials. Has anyone else heard about these options? Is anyone involved in the trials? I would love to hear more! Linda Hoopes, Team Member

  1. thanks for sharing information about the clinical trials for dry macular degeneration. It’s the first I have heard about it. I will be watching for future news about the trial. Sharon Moore patient leader

    1. Gotta love modern meds, don’t ya!

      1. What are the pill and injection called?

        1. I found this reference to a trial of a drug called Tyrogenex as an oral treatment for wet amd. https://retinatoday.com/articles/2016-july-aug/an-oral-drug-for-treatment-of-amd It is interesting reading. Wendy, Patient Leader.

        2. don't you have Medicare to cover your shots

      2. He didn’t give me names & I didn’t ask. Only that they are now actively researching which I find very promising. For the longest time, it seemed like the only testing was for wet AMD. The dry version, which is the majority, is also on their radar. At the intermediate stage of dry AMD, I am hopeful! Linda Hoopes, Team Member
