Post-Injection Side Effects

What are the primary side effects you experience after injection appointments? Any tips on how to manage them? Would love to hear from you!

  1. Pain and blurred vision for about 12 hrs.

    1. Last shot in June receive every 3 months.

    2. At first I was getting them once a month in my right eye.My left eye i have no front vision because I waited about a month to get looked at.It was too late to help me.It is so important to get looked at if any vision changes.I know that now.

  2. When I had my first injection of Avastan I had black circles and black irregular patterns for about 24 hours, I also took ibuprophen for any discomfort. When I began my injections of Eylea I could see the swirl from the medication for about 2 hours. The injection site remained irritated for about a day. I am now beginning injections in my other eye. My Dr. is also putting Prednisone drops after the injections which seems to help to recover quite a lot

    1. I can imagine seeing the circles and patterns was quite uncomfortable, especially after your first injection. I'm glad that you and your doctor have found a process to ease some of the irritation and recovery time. Keep us posted on how you continue to feel and how your injection appointments go! Sending good vibes your way! Best, Abby (MacularDegeneration.net Team Member).

  3. Only very minor discomfort following injections (12 to date). Chlorohexadine used instead of iodine, Mask worn for rest of day and overnight for 3 nights to avoid unintentional rubbing of eye. Antiseptic drops used four times a day for the following seven days.

    1. These are such valuable tips. Thank you for sharing what has worked for you! Wishing you well. - Abby (MacularDegeneration.net Team Member).

  4. Sometimes a black dot for just a few hours at the most. One time I had some eye pain for a short period of time. Most of the time, not much reaction at all.

    1. I'm so glad to hear that the pain you experienced didn't last very long. Do you find anything in particular that helps subside the pain? I hope that you continue to have smooth injection experiences! All the best, Abby (MacularDegeneration.net Team Member).

    2. I did not experience pain often, used ibuprofen when I did have some pain. Hope that helps!
