Post injection precautions.

Is it ok to use dry eye drops soon after? I usually keep the eye closed but would welcome some info on what is acceptable timewise regarding drops & exercise post injection.

  1. My sister has wet AMD and receives injections. The clinic where she gets her injections always offers to put drops in immediately following her injection. She uses them often for the next 24 hours since she is very sensitive to the Betadine used to clean the eye prior to injecting. Best wishes, Sharon Moore Advocate

    1. Sharon, are the drops your sister uses afterwards single-use drops. I worry about infection with my Dad if he uses drops from a multi-use bottle. His doctor doesn't give him any instructions. Wendy, Advocate.

    2. yes she uses the Soothe drops single use. I agree Infection would be worrisome from multi use bottles. Sharon Moore advocate

  2. thank you for your question. It really is a shame that doctors don't give their patients more instructions about what to do after injections. I can't give medical advice, and you need to ask your doctor for specific instructions, but some of the points that have been mentioned by Community members previously on this forum are: some people have been told not to shower for a day or so, or at least not to get shower water in their eyes. Others have been told to use lubricating drops if necessary, but common sense would say use sterile one-use drops as infection is to be avoided at all costs. Some people try to have a rest/nap afterwards and take some paracetamol, others like to go out to lunch! I think common sense would say take it easy for a day at least. Most people wear good sunglasses to protect their eyes outside after injections, and for that matter, all the time. Hope this helps until you can ask your doctor for specific instructions. Best wishes, Wendy, Advocate.
