Painful

The last four years, the eye drops at the Ophthalmologist and my Retina Specialist have an reaction to my eyes and lids Swollen, tender, painful, red . I wake up the next day, eyes swollen shut and takes about three days to feel better. I have used cortisone ointment (recommended by the Ophthalmologist. But, I know it thins the skin so I don’t use it often. This year my retina specialist put prednisone in my eyes and lids to try to keep it from happening. I had pictures of my eyes and showed him. Does anyone else have this sensitivity or reaction? Thank you in advance .

  1. I don’t have any answers for you unfortunately. Given your sensitivity it seems like a different drop might be in order for you. I hope others in the community can shed light on the issue. Do you let us know how things work out with you. I hope you find answers soon, Sharon Moore Advocate

    1. Thank you, I am going to ask my Dermatologist maybe she can suggest an allergy medication taken before I go may help.

      1. that sounds extremely unpleasant, and just makes going for your injection so much worse! Are the drops that are causing the problem the antiseptic drops or the numbing drops? If they are the antiseptic drops (Betadine) some Community members ask for extra rinsing after the injections to try to remove the Betadine. Some doctors (but not very many, it seems) use a different antiseptic for people who are very sensitive to Betadine. A few Community members have said their doctor uses aqueous chlorhexidine as an alternative antiseptic. If it is the Betadine causing you the problems, perhaps you could have a conversation with your doctor about the rinsing and/or the chlorhexidine. Best wishes, Wendy, Advocate.

        1. I had terrible reactions to the Betadine. Pain, watering and difficulty keeping my eye opened for 3 days after the injection. Extra rinsing and eye drops didn't help. I have a wonderful Dr. who is using baby shampoo to wash the eye before injections and I have minimal discomfort.

        2. the reaction you had before sounds terrible. I have never heard of a doctor using baby shampoo, but then I'm not a medical professional. I suppose he knew that you might stop the injections if you couldn't put up with the Betadine pain, and he really wanted you to continue. I'm glad a solution was found for you.
