light exposure

I am newly diagnosed with dry eye ARMD and my Doctor told me that I was "very early" and he did not want to see me for a year, however, he did put me on the vitamin regime and told me to avoid exposure to sunlight. I have read interesting information on this forum and have a few questions:
What is meant by "blue light"?
Is reading watching TV and working with my computer harmful?
Is wet eye more serious than dry eye ARMD?
On average how quickly does this dread disease advance?
I really would appreciate knowing the basics in terms that I can understand as I seem to be a little unsure of myself at this point.

  1. I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but glad you've found our community. It's good that your doctor thinks you are at a very early stage. I'll try to answer some of your questions from my own personal experience and knowledge, but I'm not a medical professional, just a fellow sufferer. Some people progress very slowly and you might be one of them. Some people can progress faster, and this is why we try to instigate some lifestyle changes to mitigate this. I've had dry amd for about seven years and don't have any real problems yet. I take the AREDS2 formula supplements and I think they help me, although we never really know.

Wet amd is generally considered more serious because it can develop and progress quickly. An Amsler Grid is recommended to check your sight between specialist appointments. If you see any changes, you should contact your doctor. This is to pick up quickly if your vision changes from dry to wet. https://maculardegeneration.net/vision-tests

As far as blue light is concerned, the science appears to be a little conflicted, but I'm attaching a link to an Editorial article on our sight on this topic. https://maculardegeneration.net/clinical/uv-blue-light
I use a dark mode on my phone to reduce blue light and I'm attaching a link to an article on our site about this. https://maculardegeneration.net/living/dark-mode-night-shift

I hope this information helps you. When you've had a chance to digest it, please get back to us with any more questions. Best wishes to you, Wendy, Advocate.
