Izervay, Medicare and Drug Cost

My 3rd Izervay injections are in a few days. I am on Medicare and have an advantage plan. Due to the high cost to me ($890 per visit - 2 eyes), I've been searching for a new plan, but my advisor says it is not looking good.

What I have discovered is that Izervay is not treated as a drug from the insurance standpoint. Although for 2025 there will be a $2000 cap on drug costs, this will not pertain to Izervay, which is covered under Medicare part B and not Part D. Does anyone know if Syfovre has a similar high cost? This is an enormous monthly dollar output for me and I was wondering if anyone has found a way to lower this cost.

  1. I just wanted to acknowledge that that must be so worrying for you. There are a number of people in our community on Syfovre. I hope someone will respond with suggestions for you. Wendy, Patient Leader.

    1. i am so sorry for your situation. Advantage plans sound great because they are less expensive. What they don’t say up front is about the expensive copays. You can chat with someone at Medicare to find out the copay for Syfovre. I am on Izervay every 2 months and doing as well as those on monthly. You might ask your doctor if that is an option for you. I suggest you ask about assistance programs at the clinic you use. There may be one to help you. Best of luck finding financial assistance. Warm regards, Sharon Moore patient leader

      1. - thanks for your responses😀 I have researched Medicare plans and found a supplement and drug plan that handle hight-cost drugs in a better way. When you are healthy, Advantage plans work great.
My third round of injections was yesterday and although the gel anesthetic and the shot were a breeze, I immediately noticed a black spot in my visual field. The doctor had left, but when I mentioned this to the tech, the response was 'oh, that's normal'. It hadn't occurred after the first two injections. I haven't heard back from the doctor's office yet, but online info indicates most it's probably an air bubble. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

        1. I hope it relieved your mind after speaking with the doctor. Hopefully it will fade away in a few days. I see those dark blotches at night just like you do. Life with AMD is unpredictable for sure. Keep us posted about your outcome. Warm regards, Sharon Moore patient leader

        2. I hope it goes away after the weekend for you. I hope you enjoy the holiday and the spot disappears! Wendy, Patient Leader.

      2. - It REALLY is nice to know that others share the same symptoms and experiences with AMD. Thank you so much for your support!
