Hello and where do I go from here?

I was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration a couple of months ago by the eye doctor working with Lens Crafters at the mall. He originally found it with some sort of really bright light and then used a machine to get a better look.
He then handed me the Amsler grid and I had wavy and blurred lines near the dot.
I was reading yesterday and just on a whim I closed my left eye and I had missing chunks of letters that I don't recall being like that before.
I'm 47, pastor of a tiny church in Gaffney Sc and drive a truck (I'm home every night) to pay my bills.
Would anyone like to take a shot at telling me where I go from here?
The doctor really didn't give me much information. He just went quickly from joking around to dead serious and that caught me attention. Thanks.

  1. It is very fortunate that your macular degeneration was diagnosed during your exam for glasses. The symptoms you describe are classic for macular degeneration. The next step is to make an appointment with a retinal specialist. Some require a referral from your doctor. I would try to get that scheduled right away so you can get started with appropriate care. Here is a link to an article covering the basics of macular degeneration https://maculardegeneration.net/basics
Please come back and give us an update after you see the doctor. Blessings, Sharon Moore advocate

    1. I'm sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with Macular Degeneration, but glad you've found our Community. I agree with Sharon, you need to see a retinal specialist and get a more complete diagnosis. The specialist can give you information such as: do you have it in one or both eyes, is it wet or dry, what stage is it and how do they want to treat or monitor it going forward, including possibly taking AREDs2 supplements. When you are ready, please come back to us for support. In the meantime, there's lots of information on our website to assist you. Best wishes to you, Wendy, Advocate.

      1. I wanted to follow up and see how you are doing. Have you see the eye doctor since your last post? Blessings, Sharon Moore Advocate
