Dry AMD with severe leaking of Drusen.

I've had dry AMD for around 20 yrs. It started to be a problem about 2 yrs ago. I've lost my detail vision. Can't see things in low light. I got new glasses from a low vision specialist but it really hasn't helped as much as I hoped. I've done everything I can to see better but one thing I can't improve on is driving at night. Any ideas? I can see to drive in the day, but nighttime is different story. I'm single and family members live far away. That makes getting rides at night hard. I had to cancel plans to attend my out of town 50th high school reunion. I would not be able to get around.
I'm very blessed but not being able to drive at night is unpleasant.

  1. I just wanted to acknowledge your question, because I am in the same boat. I've changed my social life significantly to avoid driving after dark, except very locally. There is a lot online about night-driving glasses, but there are a lot of warnings too. I hope someone here will chime in if they have found glasses that help. Best wishes, Wendy, Patient Leader.

    1. I have the same struggles over driving at night. I am legal to drive at night but only safe to do so in familiar areas and perfect weather conditions. You might want to give the yellow tinted glasses a try. I can’t tell they help me significantly at night. However they are great for foggy or rainy days. Have you discussed nighttime driving with your retinal specialist? Warm regards, Sharon Moore patient leader
