My insurance company has determined with start with step therapy and Avastin. That concerns me. Should I be concerned? How could I communicate with insurance company?
I don't know how you query this with your insurance company, but I do know there are quite a few Community members who have gone down this route. Hopefully someone will comment about their experience. Did the doctor say how long he has to keep using Avastin before he can step up to another drug if necessary? Wendy, Patient Leader.

from my experience as a registered nurse, this is common practice for the treatment of any condition. Generally they start with the older medications (less costly) first. If the medication doesn’t produce the desired outcome the doctor can then justify changing to a newer medication. The doctor is the one that corresponds with the insurance company in the event they think a different medication should be used. I hope this helps. Regards, Sharon Moore patient leader
