chorioretinitis

Hi all,

Has anyone ever experienced chorioretinitis in their eye(s). I had it on my childhood and now when I’m 37 I still have it in inactive phase but my eyesight keeps decreasing and doc says I might develop cataracts earlier than people normally do. Does anyone know a clinic (anywhere) specialising in this sort of things?

Thanks

  1. I just wanted to acknowledge your question. I don't have any knowledge of chorioretinitus and I don't think I have heard it mentioned here before. But if any community member has experienced this condition, hopefully they will respond. Best wishes, Wendy, Patient Leader.

    1. I'm in Sydney, Australia. Have you looked into any clinics in England, if you can't find something in Ireland. We can't recommend particular doctors or clinics, but I've heard community members mention Moofields Eye Hospital in London. Ir seems to have a good reputation. Wendy, Patient Leader.

    2. thank you! I haven’t started researching yet, for now I’m just gathering information where possible.

  2. Aiza, I have been diagnosed with myopic Choroidalneovascularization, that has something to with the choroid . My condition happened suddenly, I am 73yrs old, this usually happens to people when they are younger, around your age. Maybe you have something simular, I hope your Retinal Specialist can give you a better understanding of your condition. I do hope you can find a good Retinal Specialist who can help you.

    1. thank you for your response. Yes it sounds similar to my diagnosis. So prior your 70s you didn’t have such eye problems? I live in Ireland/Dublin and I have a retinal doc but he doesn’t prescribe me any treatment as there is no inflammation. So basically I am waiting to get cataract which I find stupid. Therefore I am looking for other clinics around the world. Where do you live and would you recommend any clinic in your country? Thank you

  3. Hello Aiza, I would say to trust your doctor. With me only one eye is affected for now. I researched my condition and they say the best treatment for my condition is to prevent it happening in the first place. So I get my eyes tested every month. I am very afraid for it to happen to my other eye! I think that is what you are feeling too, some anxiety. Try to keep your stress levels low and do not strain your eyes such as reading too much, screen time and small detail work. Also I read that foods high in saturated fat could be a possible cause, foods such as fatty meats butter cream and milk. I have been vegetarian for many years, but I still have a hard time with my cholesterol level. I would ask your doctor for advice.

    1. thank you for weighing in by sharing your experience. From my experience working in a medical field I learned that for some people genetics play a role. I dislike taking statins so my doctor and I compromise on a 3 times weekly dose. It’s working well enough to suit my doctor. Warm regards, Sharon Moore patient leader
