Cataract Surgery and Myopic MD

I have read a several articles on having cataract surgery with Myopic Macular Degeneration. A few stated your wet Macular Degeneration could get worse. Others state it has no effect. I am concerned about having surgery because I'm not sure what to believe. Obviously, I don't want to take a chance on having more bleeds because of the surgery. Any thoughts or suggestions?

  1. from my own research, I found that cataracts often develop earlier with MMD and surgery maybe more challenging. I can only speak for myself, I would want a highly skilled surgeon with plenty of experience with myopic patients to advise me and perform the surgery if needed. Are the cataracts having an impact on your ability to see? Sometimes doctors rush patients into cataract removal as was my case. I couldn’t tell a lot of difference after surgery. Best wishes as you make your decision, Sharon Moore, patient leader.

    1. A definitive answer to this might be inconclusive, but after reading and hearing other people's experiences, I can tell you that having a cataract surgery mightn't precisely affect the risk of progressing macular degeneration. Surgery shouldn't impact, is what I came to understand. Also, I don't want to suggest you delay cataract surgery when in case affected by wet macular degeneration. Cataract surgery ( https://jenkinseyecare.com/ ) might or might not help in improving your lost vision on account of macular degeneration. A well-experienced surgeon could make this more comprehensible to you.
