Can steroid injections correct wavy line issue with dry AMD?

I have dry macular degeneration most prominently in the right eye. I have been seeing wavy lines such as when looking at telephone poles for about a year and a half.

Recently i noticed i no longer see the big blip when looking at telephone poles. I didn't think this was even possible.

I had a sudden hearing loss and received two intratympanic steroid injections to the left ear in the last month or so. This is the only thing i can think of that could have caused this improvement. I still have the dim spot in the center of my vision on the right eye at night but the wavy line issue is definitely better if not perfect.

Have you ever heard of such a thing?

  1. your question led me to research the role of steroids in macular degeneration. I can’t say that the steroids improved your vision but I found several articles on the subject. Steroids fight Inflammation which plays a role in macular degeneration. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3044916/
When you see your retinal specialist it would be a good quest to discuss. I hope the improvement holds. Regards, Sharon Moore patient leader

    1. Of course. Have you known anyone with dry amd whose vision in terms of wavy lines improved for any reason?

      1. I have advanced dry macular degeneration or GA. I see distortion and wavy lines. While I do have days I notice it less, it has never gone completely away. I posted your question in our forums section at https://maculardegeneration.net/forums/for-those-with-dry-macular-degeneration-have-you-ever-had-distortion-or-wavy-lines-improve-or-go-away
