Best type of lighted magnifier

I would like to get a lighted magnifier for reading and other small detailed work. Do any of you have recommendations about the type of Magnifier you like. I don’t think I want to hold it. I’d like something that would be on a stand. Also, I don’t know how many magnification levels to look for. Are all magnifiers the same quality? I’d like a good one.

  1. I'm wondering if you could visit a Low Vision Centre if you can find one accessible to you. They often have a range of equipment you could try. Nothing beats a hands-on test of something you're interested in. If their products are too expensive, you could then try to find something similar on-line. Best wishes, Wendy, Patient Leader.

    1. Thank you to Brown Eyed Girl for taking time to offer a suggestion! I’m new to this and hadn’t heard of low vision centers. Now I know what to look for.

      1. I visited a low vision center and shown some marvelous magnifiers. The doctor said the best ones are German made. If you can afford one of those they are best. They were so expensive I went with one from Amazon. It has a folding handle and led lighting. I also go a small one I can tuck in my purse. It also has a light. Your doctor can refer you to a low vision clinic. Warm regards, Sharon Moore patient leader

        1. Thank you Sharon. I too have been looking on Amazon.

          1. what I like about Amazon is the ease of returns. If you try something that doesn’t work you can always send it back. Sharon, patient leader
